Frequently asked questions
The study will evaluate the feasibility of a new shared use path/trail/greenway that would connect Station Park in Farmington to North Salt Lake, serving people walking, biking, and rolling—for commuting or recreation—and filling a critical gap on the east side of I-15 in south Davis County where no such facility currently exists. This study aims to coordinate directly with the cities involved to analyze the feasibility of this pathway and to establish a designated, continuous route and basic concept design. The project partners successfully applied for and received a grant through the WFRC Transportation and Land Use Connections Program to initiate the study.
The communities of North Salt Lake, Bountiful, Centerville and Farmington are collaborating to conduct the South Davis Greenway Feasibility Study. The Cities, supported by Wasatch Front Regional Council, are each represented by leadership and staff that serve on a Steering Committee that collectively makes project decisions.
The South Davis Greenway Feasibility Study is funded through a grant from Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC)’s Transportation and Land Use Connection program. This funding is for the study only and does NOT include funding for design or construction.
Once the Feasibility Study has been completed and if the project partners decide to move forward with the Greenway project, they will seek funding through a variety of avenues, including local, state, and federal funding sources.
A greenway is a path for a range of non-motorized users, such as those walking, riding bikes and scooters, jogging and skating, and using wheelchairs and other mobility devices. Find out more here.
The South Davis Greenway will fill a gap in Southern Davis County’s trail and pathway network. While the cities have invested in great trails in the foothills, mountains, marsh lands, and in the areas on the west side of I-15, we lack similar trails and pathways in the center and east sides of the communities. The Greenway will provide a north-south pathway “spine” that will provide safe, comfortable, and convenient connection among the communities, downtowns, and destinations and link in our existing trail connections.
The South Davis Greenway will generally be a wide side path located behind the curb along a series of streets, from the southern end of North Salt Lake to downtown Farmington, and potentially extending to the west and/or further north. It is likely to have amenities such as trees, landscape, wayfinding signs, and lighting – creating a safe, comfortable north-south route among the communities as well as to downtown Salt Lake City. It will also feature safe crossings of both minor and major streets, establishing a connected corridor for walking, biking and rolling throughout southern Davis County.
The South Davis Greenway will provide a range of important benefits to the community, including enhanced access to south Davis County’s downtowns and community destinations, links to mountain and river trails, and great recreational opportunities and transportation choices. It will be a practical, cost-effective project that will be family-friendly, for all ages and abilities, and a point of community pride. Find out more here.
The South Davis Greenway Feasibility Study will emerge with a preferred route, concept plan, and renderings that the four partner cities can use to seek funding for further planning, design, and construction.
The pathway is anticipated to be built entirely within the current public street right-of-way, NOT encroaching on private property. However, once built, the Greenway may impact the on-street parking in front of properties, will run across driveways, and may reconfigure sidewalks, park strips, trees and landscape and other utilities and amenities.
The South Davis Greenway Feasibility Study will be completed by Summer 2026. After that, if the partner cities decide to move forward with the project, they will seek funding for design and construction, which will likely take several years.
